Production Method and Temperature Resistance Range of Silicone Products

The production methods of silicone products can be divided into several types. Silicone products have been widely used in our daily life. For example, the popular Chinese Olympic mascot "Bing Dwen Dwen" was made of silicone. In recent years, silicone products have become more and more well-known. Do you know how silicone products are made in our daily life?

Production methods of silicone products

There are mainly three methods: extrusion molding, liquid injection molding, and compression molding. First, extrusion molding is mainly used for simple silicone tubes and silicone strips. The shapes are very uniform. Sealing rings and other similar products can also be made by extrusion. After extrusion, the silicone is cut into the same length and then joined together in a ring shape. Liquid injection molding is a relatively high-tech method for producing silicone products. It requires excellent craftsmanship and details in order to achieve perfect products. The process is relatively fast. However, the drawback is that the cost of molds is very high, usually ranging from tens of thousands to even hundreds of thousands of dollars. Lastly, compression molding is the most common method used for making silicone products. Its versatility is very strong, and most of the silicone products can be processed using this method. The cost of molds is relatively cheap compared to injection molding, and most can be achieved within tens of thousands of dollars. The mold opening time is also much shorter. It provides great value for money, making compression molding the preferred method for custom-made silicone products.

Temperature resistance of silicone products

Silicone products have excellent temperature resistance. This is one of the reasons why many consumers choose to buy and use silicone products. So, what is the temperature resistance range of silicone products?

The theoretical temperature resistance range of ordinary silicone is between -55°C and 250°C, which can meet the needs of the majority of customers. I highly acknowledge this value because during the silicone vulcanization molding process in factories, temperatures of around 180°C are required. Some silicone products that require secondary baking may even be placed in a high-temperature oven at 220°C for 3 to 4 hours. Therefore, the temperature resistance of silicone products can be trusted.

Speaking of ordinary silicone, we should also mention special high-temperature resistant silicone. This is a special material that is more expensive but has stronger performance. It is said that the temperature resistance range of high-temperature resistant silicone is between -100°C and 400°C, which is beyond the capabilities of many common materials. Therefore, silicone still holds a certain dominance in the field of temperature resistance.
