When should I start using training cups?

Introducing a training cup is typically a gradual process that starts when your baby is around 6 to 9 months old, although individual readiness varies. Here are some signs that your baby might be ready to start using a training cup:

Sitting Up Independently: Your baby should be able to sit up on their own with support. This helps them hold the cup and drink without difficulty.

Showing Interest: If your baby shows interest in what you're drinking and reaches out for your cup, it might be a good time to introduce a training cup.

Teething: Babies often start teething around 6 months, and the action of chewing on a cup's spout can provide relief.

Ability to Hold Objects: If your baby can grasp and hold onto objects, they might be ready to hold a training cup with handles.

Breastfeeding/Bottle Feeding Becomes Less Frequent: As your baby starts to rely less on breastfeeding or bottle feeding, introducing a training cup can help them transition to more independent drinking.

Ability to Swallow Thicker Liquids: If your baby has started eating solid foods and can swallow thicker liquids, they might be ready for a training cup.

Remember, the introduction of a training cup is a gradual process. Start with offering a small amount of water during mealtimes. Initially, your baby might play with the cup more than actually drink from it, but that's part of the learning process. Be patient and allow your baby to explore the cup at their own pace. As they become more skilled, you can gradually introduce other liquids, such as breast milk or formula, in the training cup. Always supervise your baby when they are drinking from a cup to prevent choking and spills.
